Thank you, dear!
Update on “Funds For MJ”
The second one.
With all your help we have been able to collect money in the totall amount of 1.854,63 €!
Thank you to all who contributed in one way or another!
It has also come to my knowledge that the heating in MJ’s home has cut off last night, because the money they should’ve spend on the bill went into repaying the loanes, her fathers whole last salary to be precise, and the waterpipes are frozen as well. However, their neighbours have performed an inspiring act of kindness and brought them food and warm clothing today morning! One of them has even offered to try to unfreeze the water pipes by himself! So let’s all thank them for that!
And last but not least, let’s all continue to do our best in spreading the word and be amazing.
Thank you very much!

We’re all pulling for you, MJ! We love you!
To all those who have done commissions, bought commissions, or straight out donated, thank you. Every little bit helps, no matter how small. I sent twelve pounds, and I know it’s not much, but I just can’t handle all the feels because MJ’s going to live and everyone in this fandom is so wonderful and kind and caring and this is what makes me proud of humanity.
Bless this fandom, and all my love to everyone! <3

I’m sure you’ve all heard about MJ.
I can’t really offer much in way of support, but thescorpiontales made me think that…. well, I write? So perhaps I could write you something in exchange for a donation.
I will write your school papers for you, shhhh just come
Well, that’s a thought
Okay so first, I know MJ. She is a beast and awesome. So there.
So look at this shit. http://fundsformj.tumblr.com/mary-jane-shoemaker Now look back at what you’re doing right now. If you can help with the above please do.
Okay, so now onto my attempt to help.
Well, with all this funds for MJ things (which is amazing by the way) I kind of wished I could join in. I have no art talent I can sell for work or anything to raise money besides pleas.
Then I noticed people offering to sell writing. And while I’m sure no one will bother to take me up on this, anything is worth a shot.
So here’s the deal. I guess I open for donations in exchange for writing. I would normally say shitting writing but if you are paying to get this then I will do everything in my power to make it the most beastly piece of writing I have ever written.
This is only original fiction because the major thing about fan fiction is I can’t profit from it (well MJ in this case) even if it’s for a good cause. But guys, I write a mean original fic. Take my fan fic and make it 10 times better because I care about the end product. Yeah, you would be getting something awesome.
I know this will be ignored by I can try. And if you just want to donate (which is awesome and dude I applaud you and I’m considering how to set up a pay pal account now even though I have three bucks to my name and parents who check when their daughter sends off money to random places because that’s ‘shifty’) follow the link here.
Goodnight!
P.S (okay, maybe fan fic but shhhh)
Update on “Funds For MJ”
With the help of all of you we have been able to collect 1.830,36 € for Mary-Jane! This is the count of today, the 5th of february 16:10.
Even though we still feel like we can’t ever thank you enough we are very, very grateful to all of you!
In such a short time we have been able to achieve that MJ and her family can stay in their home for a bit longer and have the chance to try to resolve their situation in other ways. We have changed their world and that all only possible with your participation and kindness!
Thank you so much!

The day that this will not make me cry won’t come any time soon.
Oh, and MJ, Louise Brealey sends her love!
And so do I.

CLICK HERE AND CALL THESE PEOPLE UP That’s better than me offering my own funds (which I don’t have, sorry), because these people should be able to help the family get funding. Let me explain why. Here is their “Financial recommendation” page; I don’t speak Dutch, but Babelfish Translate is showing me all the keywords I need to see, to know this is an ILRC, and these are the people you definitely, absolutely, positively, need to be in touch with.
The Independent Living organizations are international, and they are of incredibly good and useful service to those who actually need them (although the majority of their clients are just freeloaders off the welfare system, at least in Canada they are), as the social workers and “peer support workers” that are employed by IL orgs are basically there for the sole purpose of helping people get money out of the government, be it Provincial, National, or Federal, wherever they can get the funds, when they are unable (or sometimes unwilling) to work, but they don’t quality for low-income financial assistance.
A lot of times, the “consumers” of the IL orgs are people who don’t need the funding, but there are others who do desperately need this kind of assistance, and it certainly sounds like MJS is in need of this kind of pitbull-with-a-passion-for-climbing-through-paperwork-jungles right now. An Independent Living org will absolutely fill that need, mark my words. They will advocate for you until they get something from somewhere, supposing it is blood from a turnip.Fair warning, this isn’t a mission for the faint-hearted, the bureaucracy involved in these things often makes the movie Brazil look like a wave-through, but if you get in touch with the right people, and get the right information, the money is always there, especially in First World countries that have long-established (and broad-spectrum) social safety nets. Which is where the Independent Living movement comes in; they help you navigate the labyrinth.Searching “disability supports in the netherlands” (searching in Dutch would probably return much more relevant results) comes up with a few different hits, including a 2007 OECD Review (PDF) of the system. Part 2in that file has the relevant info, if the Sickness Benefit has not been clawed back, since the report was issued.Part 2.3 of that PDF says this:The WAJONG makes provision for a minimum benefit for young handicapped people. A person is eligible for WAJONG benefit if he is living in the Netherlands, is below the age of 65, and is at least 25% disabled on the date on which he reaches the age of 17, or becomes at least 25% occupationally disabled after this date (but before his 30th birthday) and has been a student for at least six months in the year prior to the occupational disability. The WAJONG benefit is calculated based on the extent of the disability and the basis, i.e. the statutory gross minimum (youth) wage. For fully disabled people the benefit is 70%.
Reassessment operationPeople with a WAO, WAJONG and WAZ benefit who were born after July 1954 are now being reassessed in a operation that started in October 2004. For people born after July 1959 the disability rules are more strict (Schattingsbesluit; version in force October 2004). People who are reassessed as less disabled or no longer disabled, and who are not entitled for unemployment benefits, receive a temporary benefit to replace the lost disability benefit (maximum 12 months) (called TRI: temporary regulation for income for reassessed disability claimants). See also Chapter C.So, MJS may get re-assessed as her disease progresses (for the better, we hope), but from the extent of her disease, and the fact that she’s already had a lung transplant (I’m surprised none of the hospitals mentioned in the posts have offered any social workers or any kind of assistance in navigating the various social safety net options; that’s usually standard operating procedure, especially when minors are involved.) I would say it’s likely that she will receive the full WAJONG benefit, since she’s become disabled before her 30th birthday.2.5 Tax benefits
There are tax benefits to supplement income or alleviate the burden of the costs for health care (special costs of not insured care (e.g. dental care), costs of insurance benefits, diet, transport,
facilities, etc.).
The tax system offers deductions from taxes paid for a person having excessive health care costs. The tax system also allows a specific tax deduction for people on WAJONG benefits. So, again, if you can get in the system, you’ll have access to more supports. I know, it’s counter-intuitive, but that’s the way it works everywhere in the First World; getting your foot in the door is the hard part, but once you do that, you basically have carte blanche. (Which is why so many people take unfair advantage of the system, at least in Canada, they do.) Though getting in the system often requires metric tonnes of paperwork, and often an extended period of time —- this where I would urge the family contact their IL. Can’t stress that enough.Good luck, and I hope this info has been helpful. The IL’s sole job/purpose in life is getting money out of the government. Ask for a Peer Support Worker, or for a Funding / Financial Assistance Coordinator, they may be called different things; you basically want someone who will walk you through the process, and tell you what hoops to jump through, in order to access the disability pension funding / social safety net in your country.
And, yeah, the Disability Pension is not a great whopping amount of money, but every little bit helps…and they may be able to point you towards grants / other assistance you can apply for (i.e., charitable funds set up to cover large emergency medical expenses like yours), grants and options that the government wants to keep quiet, so no one has ever heard of them.
How do I know this? When I walked out of my parents’ home at 21 with no job, no prospects of a job, no money, and no post-secondary education, I managed to get a grant to get enough post-secondary education to get me into the workforce, a living allowance that put a roof over my head whilst I was doing so, and even an offer (which I declined, with much kicking and screaming and frothing at the mouth) for the system to provide me with a free ride for the rest of my life.
(Which I was viewed as ungrateful for not jumping at. But don’t get me started….)
My point being, if the Independent Living people were willing to do that for me (I’m not disabled, but I’ve been labeled by society as such because I don’t come with the Standard Human 1.0 hardware.) surely they should do that, and so much more, for someone in MJS’ situation.
I also volunteered at the ILRC during this period of my life, so I know what a racket it can be. The most unfair part of the whole shenanigan is, the money is there for those who actually do need it, like MJS. Unfortunately (at least in Canada) there are so many who are able to take advantage of the system, by outright lying (with the help of the “peer support workers” in wording their applications correctly), that often those who most need or deserve access to the social safety net, “fall through the cracks” because they either don’t want to be labeled the same as those who DO fight for the funds, or they don’t know the funds exist, for “people like them.”
CLICK HERE AND CALL THESE PEOPLE UP. That’s the best I can do. If they can’t help you, I’m not sure what else to suggest. From cursory research, and secondhand knowledge of the Netherlands, there has to be money, somewhere. It’s just a matter of knowing how to execute the proper maneuvers through the bureaucracy. Which is where these people come in. They should be able to get you started, and they should be absolutely willing to fight for you, for your rights.
Hope that helps! This has all been far too long to put in an Ask, so if someone sees this on the #fundsformj tag, can you forward it to her, please?
Regards, from Orac.
And we would like to tell you that it is awesome that you are being a part of it! People like you have made all this possible and we will be forever thankful for that.
